Stephen Austin is an Australian trained Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon, a local of the western suburbs and the founder of WestOMS. Stephen completed his surgical training in Victoria and then spent an additional two years completing internationally recognised Fellowships in the UK and in Melbourne. Stephen is a contributing editor of the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
In addition to private practice, Stephen contributes a great deal to public health. He is the Head of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Western Health, where he oversees training of young surgeons with the help of an incredibly talented team of surgical colleagues. Stephen also operates at St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he has specialised in corrective jaw surgery and temporomandibular joint surgery.
Stephen finds professional satisfaction in any job well done, whether it be a simple dental extraction or the reconstruction of traumatic facial injuries. He engages in collaborative work with other colleagues, as it always presents new opportunities to learn and improve. He enjoys teaching his registrars, who remain an enduring source of entertainment.
Outside of practice Stephen is usually found with a coffee, writing letters or reading the newspaper. He thinks Maribyrnong is lovely all year round.
